Tarantula Nebula Is On Hiatus

4/12/2026

Hello There!!!!

In January of 2025, I discovered AI music! It was a great hobby for me! The first app I used was Suno, but I looked around and experimented. I found Sing, which ran off Suno, and I paid weekly fees for a subscription. I thought it was great! It gave me unlimited songs, and I liked the format. This went on for a couple of months, then I realized that my AI music hobby was more than a passing fad. I really, really liked it so I paid for a full-year subscription. It was $59.99 and I thought it was a great bargain. That was last March, and I was more than happy to pay another $59.99 for another year but…

SING WAS REMOVED FROM THE APP STORE !!!!!

During these past twelve months, it’s not just the AI music that I’ve become involved in. I had already taken a liking to creating AI art and images, but I started using AI for much, much more. I created a myBB social forum with the help of AI. That launched in September of last year. I’ve asked AI for legal and medical advice, and I’ve been quite happy with the responses. I try to confirm suggestions with a real life person, by the way. but it makes the process easier. I happen to be a writer, and I talked to AI about analyzing books I’ve written, and scripts I’ve developed.

Let’s talk about fiction for a little while. In 2013, I wrote a novel called Thermite. This was years before ChatGPT became a household name. Originally, the book was roughly half of what it wound up being. I “finished” Thermite, the characters remained in my brain, and I kept writing. I was working on a book called Sarin as a sequel when I realized that it flowed too much with what was already written. Instead of releasing Sarin as a separate piece of work, I tacked it on to the end of Thermite. In order to do this, I had to write a creative bridge. You know what I did? At the end of the original Thermite story, I killed off one of the main characters, Vivian Streets. Well, for Sarin, she was going to return! She escaped a controlled demolition of a hotel casino in Elko, Nevada, but her lover, Fletcher Browne, did not know about it! They had an android companion who explained to Fletcher that she had to die in the implosion because she was actually a Communist spy for Russia, and it had to be that way. Long story short, Sarin was supposed to begin with Fletcher discovering that Vivian was still alive! She came out of a literal Trojan horse at Huntington Beach, California and surprised him.

Here’s where the AI comes in. A few months ago, I wanted an analysis of Thermite as it was finally completed. However, the AI could not take the entire script in at once. The final story was almost two hundred pages, and I had to feed it to AI in ten-to-fifteen-page chunks. With each chunk, the AI gave an analysis. When it came time for Vivian’s death, the AI started to criticize me! It gave me feedback that the death made no sense, and it was poor plot planning. The AI said the android (named Shazbot) was too superficial in his response. I loved the criticism! Why? I happened to know that Vivian did not die! It was a ploy to prompt Fletcher to “grow up” and get his shit together! Pretty much, when Vivian came out of the Trojan horse, the AI gave feedback along the lines of, “Now it makes sense.”

The AI music has been a great hobby. It’s not over, but it’s on hiatus. Last month, in March, I got through six Rush songs before my subscription ran out. I was unaware that Sing was no longer in the App Store. I was hoping to get to ten songs, but it just wasn’t in the cards. Of course, I could’ve tried out different apps like I did last January. I didn’t want to do it. My mind was elsewhere. I’ve been wearing Levi’s jeans since middle school. I like Hane’s shirts, and I’ve worn them for years. I’ve been buying Vans since I was ten years old. Some people change their ways on a regular basis, and I do as well, but just not with certain things. I still have Magix video editing software installed on my tower computer. I will not change to another program, and I’ve had it for two decades. There was certain things that I’ve become comfortable with. I liked to blow bubbles when I was a kid. That was cool! Round bubbles floating in the air! What a blast to watch, right? How could it get any better? Colored bubbles? Cube bubbles? I don’t know! Companies have a tendency to re-create the wheel when they don’t need to. I’ve said it before, but the Fender Stratocaster needs zero improvements. There are enthusiasts who tinker with it, but the way it comes out of the factory is just fine! I know because I’ve had a few of them!

Sing was a great app! My days flowed better than they have in years while I was using it. I talked to AI about my situation. Other apps, like Suno, offer credits. It seems fair enough, and I’ll likely return to that type of set up. There’s something to be said about unlimited songs, though! We’re talking about literal unlimited songs! You can experiment what all kinds of ideas without worrying for a microsecond that you’re pissing away money! The service has already been paid. The AI explained to me that apps like Sing have been targeted. They’re just too good to be true, in all honesty. Unlimited songs means more data usage which leads to a host of other issues. And there was a copyright problem that complicated it even more.

I have two images at the top of this page:

— Out to Lunch

— Sorry, We’re Closed

I will stay away from my AI music hobby for a while. For a couple of weeks after Sing was no longer available, I had unreleased songs which I deemed as “clunkers & alt versions” and I uploaded those. I’m a guy who cycles through projects, though. I like to change my focus. I’ve been doing a lot for Maniac Nebula, and I started working on a script for a book. I’m very excited about it, actually. I’ll come back to the AI music. If it’s soon, we can say I’m out to lunch. If it’s longer? Sorry, we’re closed. Maybe later in a few months. You guys have been great, though! Thank you for listening to my music, and thank you for supporting me! Some of you have read Thermite, Kiribati, or Cretins. I’m now returning to my pseudonym, Brick Jayne, I’ll have a new book by the end of the year. When it happens, I’ll let you know…
